The American Flag

I'm the American flag, you see,

The red, the white, and the blue;

And the only rewards ever given to me,

Are the pledges I get from you.

The red, for the battles and blood that was shed,

My white, stands for pureness and truth;

My blue, for the loyal, both living and dead,

Who guarded me with fortitude.

Fifty stars in a cluster, and no star alone,

Indivisible, here, you can see;

The star of each state with a flag of their own,

United to keep you all free.

Unique in the world and the greatest of all,

I am showing those countries afar;

After 200 years, with our backs to the wall,

I'm determined to back every star.

So these things I now stand for, I'm proud to profess,

As I wave from up here every day;

And though I've grown weary, I have to confess,

You were right to have made me this way.

Through the 200 years, I'm not apt to forget,

All the hardships my people have known;

And united together, my stars can all bet

They'll never be standing alone.
