Brother Ellis writes: "I have taken ideas from poems which I have seen in various Lodges
and developed them to form this one which is presented to a Candidate after receiving his Third Degree
[at Lodge Hope Bridge Castle #827 in Armadale, UK]."
To Be A Brother
Some Brothers keep their Lodges strong,
While others join and just belong.
Some dig right in and serve with pride,
Some go along just for the ride.
Some volunteer to do their share,
While some lie back and just don't care.
On meeting nights some always show,
While others are those who just don't go.
Some are proud to be involved
And work to get our problems solved;
Some do their best, some build, some make,
Some never give but always take.
Some lag behind, some let things go,
Some never help their Lodge to grow.
Some drag, some pull, some don't, some do.
Consider, which of these are you?
You've had your Third in 8-2-7,
You really have been made in Heaven.
You're one of us, we'll have a laugh,
But keep this Lodge on its straight path.
One thing I'll say and it is, "Please
don't disappear now you've had Three Degrees!
You're too important to this Lodge.
Your duties you must never dodge!"
You're a Master Mason from Armadale;
I hope that later you'll tell the tale
Of how you did your very best
To keep this Lodge up with the rest.
